  13.      Carol came up from college to visit last weekend.  She
  14. got a car- a Honda Civic- this year, a hand-me-down from her
  15. mother. 
  16.      On Saturday, we decided to catch _Bram Stoker's Dracula_
  17. after reading Roger Ebert's article in which he dismissed the
  18. whole thing as the worst kind of camp.  It was playing at a
  19. theatre in Mishawaka, one town to the east and kind of remote
  20. from my house.  Plus, it had snowed and Carol has had little
  21. practice driving on snow, since she comes from North Carolina.
  22.      What this means is that I, for the first time ever, drove
  23. a Honda Civic.  I learned to drive on a '68 VW camper, and the
  24. other cars I've driven long distances have been similarly
  25. underpowered and unwieldy.
  26.      The car handled like a dream.  Really quiet ride, able
  27. to turn on a dime and leave two nickels in change.  A brief
  28. tap on the accelerator and the car surged forward in a rush
  29. of power.  Four on the floor transmission making me feel
  30. like a racecar driver without the hassle of actually being
  31. able to drive very well.  I was thrilled to control this car,
  32. thrusting the hard and sleek machine down the road.
  33.      "This car is great!" I exulted.  "I love this car!"
  34.      "I'm glad," Carol said, "but I think you should stop
  35. fondling the gearshift."
