the climate is salubrious and the extradition treaties quite balmy.
you can build a huge house in the jungle, like harrison ford in
"mosquito coast," with a porch facing out over the rio jicama,
a mahogany porch, real mahogany baby, and wicker lounge furniture
on which you can sit, watch the sunset (it is a peculiar fact
of paraguayan geography that the sun is always setting - something
to do with longitude i think) and chain-drink dry martinis.

when you get bored you can throw parties and invite all the other
great criminals of history.  smoke play cards and dabble in
conspiracy.  castles of evil in the air.  things you should have
done forty years ago but never got around to it.  things you would
do today if you were forty years younger.  bang drinks on card
tables and summarize the world's ills in six-word sentences.
it's not the world's friendliest subculture but polish up your
german and you should do just fine.

c
