  10. I was recently informed of a somewhat disturbing development: there are plans
  11. in this area to network the vending machines.  Everyone here would have a
  12. charge account used only for the machines.  The idea, it seems, is to save
  13. people having to carry around cash for quick snacks.

  15. Here's the frightening part: someone, somewhere, would be able to see when and
  16. where you were when last you used one of the machines.  They would know how
  17. much you spent and what you ate.  Who would this be??
  18. It's not much of a problem in and of itself, but it's certainly heading in a
  19. "1984" direction...
