- I have been so totally confused with this thread...

- ?>Abstinence is the only good method of birth control. It's obviously the
- ?>only 100% certain method.
- ?
- ?Abstinence is not 100% effective. You can attempt to practice
- ?abstinence all you want, this is no guarantee you will not end
- ?up having to deal with an un-wanted pregnancy.
-
- Huh? Only one person I know of has gotten pregnant by being abstinent,
- and that's Mary, the mother of Jesus. Please explain.
-
- ?There are other more reliable methods of contraception. Mutilating
- ?your sex organs is guaranteed to be 100% reliable. Many of us do
- ?not feel the cost is worth it and will continue to use abortion
- ?when less reliable, but also less costly methods fail.
-
- Well we could have some amazing tenors to listen to in the opera....
-
- My question is how much abstinence costs with respect to other methods
- of birth control? You don't need a doctor's prescription, you don't need
- to spend money, or you don't need to learn how to put things in or on to
- prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Abstinence is the only means I know where
- people that practice abstinence don't get an unplanned pregnancy.
-
- Now obviously, post-conception, abstinence is a moot argument. Herein
- lies the argument of where life begins and so on... (Insert definition
- of "birth" and "control" and arguments showing that abortion is or is
- not "birth control").
-
- ?>If a couple considers themselves adult enough to engage in sex, they
- ?>should face the adult responsibilities that might accompany the action.
- ?>And making sure that the child that results from your actions is cared
- ?>for is an obvious responsibility. I strongly believe that killing that
- ?>child through an abortion is not facing your responsibilities.
- ?
- ?Then don't do it. Others of us strongly disagree with you and
- ?you should leave us alone.
-
- My goodness, Cornelia! I've finally found someone that agrees with me on
- responsible actions! I wish I didn't clean out all my abortion-related
- posts over the summer from my account (they're all archived on paper
- now). As for leaving "us" alone, then don't let us pay for the mistakes
- you make.
-
- ?>Sure, sex may be fun, but be prepared to deal with all that it entails
- ?>No Sex is Safe Sex.
- ?>Everybody knows that there isn't any condom that guarantees no pregnancy
- ?>will result. And they don't prevent the horrible diseases that can
- ?>result from sex, either.
- ?
- ?Then don't have sex. Some of us feel the rewards from sex are
- ?worth the risk. Some of us are willing to leave our houses
- ?knowing that it could result in harm, but knowing the reward
- ?is worth the risk. If you feel safer staying in your house
- ?and avoiding all outside risk, hey I would never pass legislation
- ?forcing you to leave your house.
-
- That is part of your personal decision-making. If you feel that sex is
- worth the risk of getting someone pregnant or getting HIV, then by all
- means, go for it. If you make that decision responsibly, so be it. But
- don't come crying saying, "But I had plans to go to college/grad
- school/become CEO and I now have to take care of this KID. I have to get
- an abortion so my dreams can come true. ..." I normally go outside my
- house and my dorm room so I can go to class and achieve my dreams,
- despite any risks to me that a tree will fall on me. If your dreams
- encompass having sex with your significant other before marriage, then
- by all means, have fun.
