  20. One key (and to me, obvious) difference is that women have far greater
  21. say about their level of financial contribution.  A woman need not pay
  22. much of anything if she is so inclined.  But the man is likely to be
  23. forced into 18 years of payments.  While it is true that women also
  24. contribute financially, this contribution is usually _voluntary_.

  26. A more equitable situation would have custody of the child
  27. automatically go to the state, requiring _both_ parents to sue for
  28. custody, and with judgements equitably distributed between men and
  29. women.
