  12.     It's amazing how many people seem to be talking past eachother
  13.     in this thread.... so few people actually hearing what
  14.     the other has said...  and so few _actual_ resoponses to
  15.     issues...  I could probably go on for pages to _directly_
  16.     respond to all that has been said here, but since there seems to 
  17.     be so little *hearing* going on, I'll save my effort.

  19.     What continues to disappoint me greatly is the "thinking"
  20.     (rhetoric actually) that was repeated here with regard to racism,
  21.     especially when directed against blacks.  Until a much more
  22.     significant amount of the black population in America can
  23.     get their "heads on straight" about what it means to be
  24.     black, white, and racist in America, they will continue
  25.     to lead lives that fail to meet their satisfaction.  Rarely
  26.     have I ever seen such immense misrepresentation and complete
  27.     misunderstanding of white America as I had read in some previous
  28.     posts.  Most distressing were the blanket representations of
  29.     whites as "barbarians" and such....  This is obvious and clear
  30.     racism, in the ugliest sense.  The individual should feel
  31.     ashamed IMHO for such a display of their racist hatred.
  32.     I apologize for commenting on this in soc.women, but felt
  33.     compelled to respond.

  35.     As far as role models....  Brian (I believe was the name) was
  36.     very much right on target in his recognition of racism, and the
  37.     implicated importance of learning NOT to identify with people
  38.     primarily on the basis of sex or skin color or national origin.

  40.     Fantastic role models are available everywhere!  If you limit
  41.     your role-model choices to those who have the same color
  42.     and genital set as you, you are limiting your life.  Simple
  43.     as that.  It helps to make a strong identification
  44.     with a role-model, and that can be accomplished by use of
  45.     sex or color, but it NEED NOT BE SO.  There are infinate ways
  46.     in which to identify with any individual, and in the choosing
  47.     of any role-model.  Teach your children to model off all
  48.     peoples... it is something that many don't currently do, but it
  49.     can be taught.  Remember, we 'teach' our children to see
  50.     in a racist and sexist way.... we _can_ undo this teaching
  51.     if we really want to.
