-
- Most of the land in the original colonies was already allotted at the time of
- the war. The land which was originally opened up was the Northwest Territory
- (one of the reasons for the war was that although Britain obtained title to
- the former French claims, American colonials were forbidden to go beyond
- the Alleghenies. Also, most of the American soldier received very little if
- any pay but the Virginia armies were promised land in Ohio for their efforts
- in the war. There were also additional lands in Ohio given to various groups--
- there's a large New England settlement around Cleveland.
-
- Around central Ohio, in addition to Virginia Military lands there is a
- "refugee" track which was to go to people who were displaced as a part of
- the war. There were also large tracks in Ohio given to officers who fought
- in the war. There were also the lands of the "Ohio" company, which purchased
- land directly from Congress to resell to settlers (at one time they offered to
- purchase approx. 5 million acres for about 50cents per acre).
-
- I would imagine a lot of land in Pennsylvania and New York as well as the
- Western sections of Virginia and the Carolinas was sold to people who intended
- to resell at a profit.
-
- Sorry I don't have specific information on your questions.
