- There are a number of genealogy programs out for the Mac. Lisa Oberg
- mentioned PAF for the Mac. I agree that this is a very smooth and easy-
- to-use program. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles and it won't
- make the coffee for you in the morning, but it has data fields for
- everything that really matters, and, as she mentioned, if you're not
- LDS, you can turn off the LDS data fields.
- There's also Sesame, from Commsoft, the makers of Roots III for
- Compatibles. They're
- Commsoft, Inc.

- Windsor, CA 95492-0310

-
- You can also supposedly find Sesame at giant software supermarkets.
- Sesame is like a spreadsheet for doing genealogy. It's main claim to
- fame is that you can store your notes and data as you find it, without
- forcing it into restrictive data fields. Each cell in the "spreadsheet"
- can contain up to 64K of text (65,535 characters). Sesame is good for
- organizing your research, but doesn't have a lot of fancy presentation
- or printing features.
- Both programs import and export GEDCOM.
- There are a number of other programs out there, such as Family Roots
- from Quinsept in MA, a shareware program called MacRoots, and a number
- of others. If you have access to a genealogical society or library, see
- if they have a copy of _Genealogical Computing_ magazine from Ancestry, Inc.
- Each summer(?) issue they have a comprehensive survey listing all the
- programs they've heard of, giving a short description, kind of hardware,
- price, and publisher. Give it a squint.
