- Last week there was a segment on the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour on "Gays in the
- Military." It focused on Margaret Kammemyer (sp?) who is fighting to be
- reinstated after being discharged for admitting her lesbianism.
-
- It was a powerful piece, including an unbelievable scene where two homophobes
- (married man and woman) were accosting her in a parking lot. The woman
- screamed at Margaret saying, "My husband fought in two wars to protect us
- from people like YOU!" And Margaret calmly replied, "No, he didn't fight
- against people like me."
-
- The film clip was followed by an interview with two military personnel
- representing opposing viewpoints. It amazed me that ANYONE could support
- the ban after watching that film about Margaret. Similar to sanctioning
- the crucifixion of Christ well after the fact.
-
- BTW, Secretary of Defense Cheney has stated that he favors allowing
- gay men and lesbians to hold civilian jobs in the military. That, of
- course, would protect his friend Pete Williams.
