  12. I have a friend who is interested in studying mechanical engineering 
  13. (undergrad) and would like to forward any information you may have about
  14. Texas Tech to him.  Some of the things he wants to know:
  15.  
  16. 1) How good is the mech. engineering dept. there?
  17. 2) How competitive is it to enter as a transfer student?
  18. 3) What is the  campus like?
  19. 4) What is the area outside of the campus like?  What's there to do when
  20. you have free time?
  21. 5)  Is it worth it for an out-of-stater.  He is from California.  The fees
  22. at the University of California is about to break the $3000/yr barrier.  He
  23. will want a semi-generous financial aid package.
  24. 6)  Anything else... (other schools he may want to transfer into?  his
  25. GPA is around the 2.9-3.0  mark)
