The "motss" in soc.motss stands for "Members Os The Same Sex". This name
was chosen to be deliberately obscure so as to heighten its chances of
being carried by sites. One could say that it was a euphemism for
"soc.gay" or "soc.lesgay". Motss does not stand for "generic
non-straight". It is primiarly a lesbian&gay space, though there are a
number of people of other sexual orientations (e.g., bi & stright folk)
who hang out there and are considered part of the family.
