  24. Well, if you're asking for my (Bayesian prior) estimate of the chances,
  25. I'd quote something like 90%, given the makeup of the net (on which I
  26. have no hard data - hence the subjectivitiy of the estimate).  Modify
  27. that by what you've said (which affects your audience's estimate of you
  28. with each syllable you use, in an infinity of ways), and I might revise
  29. slightly to about 95% for my estimate.  Do I care?  Not really.  Not
  30. unless you want to claim, in a discussion in which racial status has an
  31. interaction, that your racial type has no bearing on what you say.

  33. Note 1) it, your racial type, should have no bearing on the truth.  It
  34. will, however, have bearing on how your opinions are viewed by any but
  35. the most credulous audiences.

  44. converse is clearly false, since I am white and I disagree with him on
  45. at least the point which led to this discussion.  (Yes, I'm assuming for
  46. this that he is, in fact, white - I have no proof of that, but I suspect
  47. he might have denied it by now were it incorrect).

  51. very much outside this discussion, and that is probably true of many
  52. here.  I don't think this need be a rancorous argument; if you feel the
  53. need to join in, please do.  If you prefer to junk the thread, that's
  54. fine.  Still, for what it's worth, I lost your demuffining in a recent
  55. accident, so I'll offer hugs to you in welcome.  Acceptance is, of
  56. course, at your discretion.  Hugs from me may well be conditional on
  57. your coherence and lack of obnoxiousness, but they are most certainly
  58. not conditional on your race.
