  26. There may be some kind of spectrum here. It sounds like I might rate as
  27. "political" compared to you, but as "apolitical" compared to folks
  28. I know who go to Queer Nation and a couple of other meetings every week.

  30. I tend to be a bit more low-key, and I guess I'm trying to work in the
  31. long haul, not go for a fast burn-out; but I've got a political/ideological
  32. outlook.

  34. One part of this may be that I came out, and identified with the gay/lesbian
  35. and feminist communities some time back, and having this as part of
  36. my public identity even when my interpersonal sex life has been non-existent
  37. has shaped my outlook.

  39. I've met 20 year olds who by their own accounts have had more sex with more
  40. people than me (at nearly 40), but there is a kind of accumulation of
  41. self-assurance over all this time being out.

  43. I give money to the ACLU, and the Speak-Out program and other gay rights
  44. membership organizations. And I'm working in some forums like the churchs
  45. which don't always have immediate payoffs and may not offer dramatic 
  46. confrontations like civil disobedience (most of the time). But I think
  47. there's a lot of politics/ideology and even theology woven into this all.
