- From a friend's discussion with the local oil companies, you'll have to go
- farther than that. They told him that the entire states of Washington and
- Oregon are now provided gasahol... it wasn't cost-productive to mix up
- separate gas and control separate shipments.

- Now the big news: D'you wonder why Washington and Oregon get ethanol when
- most other states get MTBE?

- Simple: WA and OR give tax breaks for adding alcohol to the gas, and have
- the coolish climate that mitigates the vapor lock problem. MTBE is
- actually easier to handle and gives less car problems.

- Now imagine... every drop of car gas in the entire state has alcohol in it,
- and represents a loss in tax revenue. Do you think the powers-that-be in
- Olympia have worked THAT into the budget?
