  29. A companion to virtual reality, "Virtual acoustics" create the
  30. illusion that sounds are coming from specific points in space.  When
  31. the listener moves, a tracking device mounted on headphones signals a
  32. computer, which manipulates the sounds transmitted. NASA's system
  33. might eventually be used to help air traffic controlers track planes
  34. in congested skies.

  39. With all the various applications virtual acoustics could enhance, I actually
  40. expected a bit more from Popular Science. Perhaps more will follow as the
  41. market learns of the potentuals here.
