  35. This compilation gathers all practical data available on associations,
  36. societies, scientific committees, agencies, companies, institutions,
  37. universities, etc., more generally organizations, involved in astronomy
  38. and space sciences. Many other types of entries have also been included
  39. such as academies, bibliographical services, data centres, dealers,
  40. distributors, funding organizations, IAU-adhering organizations,
  41. journals, manufacturers, meteorological services, national norms and
  42. standards institutes, parent associations and societies, publishers,
  43. software producers and distributors, and so on.

  45. Besides astronomy and space sciences, related fields  such as
  46. aeronautics, aeronomy, astronautics, atmospheric sciences, chemistry,
  47. communications, computer sciences, data processing, education,
  48. electronics, engineering, energetics, environment, geodesy, geophysics,
  49. information retrieval, management, mathematics, meteorology, optics,
  50. physics, remote sensing, and so on, are also covered when appropriate.

  52. StarGuides 1993 (CDS Special Publication 20 - two volumes) will gather
  53. about 6000 entries from about 120 countries. The information is given in
  54. an uncoded way for easy and direct use. For each entry, all practical
  55. data available are listed: city, postal and electronic-mail addresses;
  56. telephone, telex and telefax numbers; foundation years; numbers of
  57. members and/or staff; main activities; titles, frequencies, ISS-Numbers
  58. and circulations of periodicals produced; names and geographical
  59. coordinates of observing sites; names of planetariums; awards, prizes or
  60. distinctions granted; and so on.

  62. The entries are listed alphabetically in each country. An exhaustive
  63. index gives a breakdown not only by different designations and acronyms,
  64. but also by location and major terms in names. Thematic subindices are
  65. also provided as well as statistics on the contents (numbers of entries
  66. per country, memberships, years of foundation) and a list of telephone,
  67. telefax and telex national codes.

  69. StarGuides 1993 is available as CDS Special Publication 20 (ISSN
  70. 0764-9614 - ISBN 2-908064-18-9) for 500 French Francs (FF), surface
  71. postage included. For air mail delivery, please add 15%. If at all

  73. Eurocheques. Failing this, please add 20% in order to cover the bank
