- I would take the doctor's advice before the pharmacists, IF the doctor has
- a decent amount of experience prescribing Prozac. The pharmacist may be
- correct, however, it is often better to be safe than sorry when mixing two mood
- modifiers like Alcohol and Prozac.
-
- It is important that this drug be monitored very closely, as it has been known
- to increase suicidal ideation in rare cases.
-
- I wouldn't see a general physician for more than one month on this drug. It is
- generally better to have a psychiatrist overseeing patients on anti-depressants
- than an endicrinologist or a gastroenterologistor other non-psychiatric
- physician. They often lack the necessary training and experience to manage the
- drug properly.
-
- Alcohol is a CNS depressant. If you want to look at it this way, drinking
- alcohol while on an anti-depressant is a little like taking salt tablets while
- on anti-hypertensive medication. Alcohol won't improve depression, and
- probably will worsen it.
