  23. Chuck's problem is not that he's strident and extreme, it's that he has
  24. a single axe to grind, and uses selective snippets from the literature
  25. to prove its edge.  This is not science, it's the intellectual
  26. equivalent of a ransom note cut from magazines.  Whenever you read
  27. Chuck's "Adiposity 101", ask yourself, "What ISN'T he reporting?
  28. WHY should we trust his selection of "facts"?"  As Gordon points out,
  29. for every study which "proves" his point (i.e., that people can't and
  30. should not lose weight with current techniques because it's futile)
  31. there are studies which contradict this, often in the same journals.
  32. That's because scientific "truth", such as it is, is often to be
  33. found only by wrestling intelligently with the cacophony of contradiction
  34. found in current studies.
