- It's unlikely that steroids were a factor. Human growth harmone, on the
- other hand, may have some links to cancer. Anti-inflamitory steroids
- may have some negative effects like those I've experienced firsthand.
-
- At one time I was taking prednisone because of Bells Palsy. It reduced
- the facial paralysis but it had a host of nasty side effects.
-
- Clouded thinking, intense moods, short temper, violent and/or bizzare
- type thoughts and compulsions, all things that were completely unlike me.
- Plus headaches, fatigue, confusion, and a general sick and nervous feeling.
- What was weird was that it had such an effect on me but it crept
- up on me gradualy enough that I didn't realize that it was happening.
-
- I was in a grocery store and the thought occured to me "I bet if I
- hit that guy (nearby shopper), I can walk right out of here and nobody
- will try to stop me from leaving." I left the store thinking what
- a strange thought that was, and I decided to stop the prednisone, though
- I was supposed to continue for a few more weeks. After a few days without
- the drug it became especialy apparent how mind altering it had been from
- how much better I felt.
-
- I gained about 15 lbs (in my face apparently), but it must have been
- all water because it all went away in a few weeks.

- It was worth it BTW, it was the second attack of Bells palsy I'd had,
- and it only lasted 3 weeks instead of ~3 months like the first time.
