- It is an obvious fact that far more people get counseling in the U.S than
- anywhere else.
- The following are plausible explanations.
-
- 1. The "counselling industry" cons people into seeking counselling who don't
- benefit from it.
-
- 2. A greater proportion of people in the U.S are mentally disturbed than in
- other industrialized countries.
-
- 3. Other countries have fewer resources in this regard and can't cater for
- people who need this valuable service.
-
- Does anybody have any comments on these explanations or any other theories?
- I am from the U.K and when I came to U.T Austin, I was very surprised to
- find it extremely common for mathematics graduates to have received, or
- be receiving professional counselling .
