  27. Actually, at least in my experience, the conditions that would make 
  28. most PhD's happy are essentially impossible to obtain. Nothing the
  29. schools or school systems could do would provide what they want.

  31. What they want of course is motivated students and students who
  32. are *interested* in learning. This is the responsibility of parents.
  33. Currently, cultural conditions in the U.S. are such that most people
  34. do not place a high value on education. The result? Students who
  35. don't give a shit.
