  13. How about doing something really radical such as posting your 'office
  14. hours' notice to the undergrads ?  OK, so most of them will ignore it,
  15. but you may be lucky and find a bright student who wants to find out
  16. about/discuss areas of maths not directly covered in courses. I know
  17. that most of us can't even tie our own shoelaces, but amazingly there
  18. are a few undergrads who are actually interested in their subject and
  19. are suffering the same sort of isolation you are (it's uncool to be
  20. too enthusastic). I'm always hanging around after lectures, chatting
  21. about stuff I've read with the lecturers. I even got an academic
  22. summer job simply by asking a professor a few 'awkward questions'.
