- How about doing something really radical such as posting your 'office
- hours' notice to the undergrads ? OK, so most of them will ignore it,
- but you may be lucky and find a bright student who wants to find out
- about/discuss areas of maths not directly covered in courses. I know
- that most of us can't even tie our own shoelaces, but amazingly there
- are a few undergrads who are actually interested in their subject and
- are suffering the same sort of isolation you are (it's uncool to be
- too enthusastic). I'm always hanging around after lectures, chatting
- about stuff I've read with the lecturers. I even got an academic
- summer job simply by asking a professor a few 'awkward questions'.
