  12. You don't have to be much of an environmentalist to oppose this plan.
  13. I almost never agree with Alan M. and still think this is wrong.

  15. The problem is people.
  16.  
  17. People who are wanton in their destruction of nature are bad.
  18. People who think they know "better" than Ma Nature are worse.
  19.   
  20. When you consider that the Maori exterminated some 80-90% of 
  21. South Pacific bird species by the time Cook arrived on the scene, 
  22. without even trying, that the Easter Islanders transformed their
  23. habitat to a barren, treeless wasteland, and that the Anasazi did
  24. essentially the same in the Southwest, the scope of the problem
  25. becomes clear.

  27. Modern man and industrial society isn't the problem.  Indigenous
  28. people with basic hunter-gatherer and beginning agriculture have
  29. done plenty of environmental damage.

  31. It just gets WORSE when people try to "help" Ma Nature.
