- An important fact to remember in this thread is that we are discussing
- only EXTANT works. As a Renaissance scholar, I am constantly reminded
- that interpretations of the ancient world depend to a large degree on
- the fortuities of transmission. Probably a good portion of classical
- Greek literature was lost in the transition from book-roll to codex
- which took place in the second through fourth centuries AD, though I
- have no idea what percentage disappeared.
