- I have read most of the arguments about the explosive gold dust. Is
- it possible that gold combines with O2 resulting explosion? Certainly not. As
- pointed out by many guys, gold oxide releases O2 at high temperature.
- Is it possible that gold combines other gases in the air, such as N2,
- CO2, etc? No, that sounds ridiculous. The conclusion seems clear: gold
- dust is not explosive!

- An explosion is resulted from a sudden release of enormous amount of
- energy. The energy can be from chemical reaction, or it can be from
- simply physical condensation. If the gold dust is so fine that
- its surface energy is very significant, explosion could happen. Of
- course you won't see gold oxide being formed, you will see chunks of gold
- formed from the gold dust. Actually, most of the dust explosion are
- mainly due to the surface energy problem (at least ignited by the surface
- energy problem).
