- I think that it was entirely a manufacturing choice, that is it's
- somehow easier to build it when the universal shaft and the blot shaft
- are not inline. In any case the offset is only 1/2" and totally
- inconsequential in practice. In practice the foot is tightened
- appropriately (so that you can just barely get it loose with cold
- hands) and the offset is wherever it happens to be.

- If you want to be compulsive you can get shims and shim it until you
- get the universal inline with the board centerline. But I'd rather
- be sailing.
