- Friday, Nov.13th, Eastern Canada had the last BIG BLOW of the season.
- Sailors in the south of Nova Scotia headed for Crescent Beach located at
- the end of Green Bay(get the map out). This will probably prove to be the
- last of the big warm fronts... this one has a 1000 miles of winter on the
- backside of it. WHAT IS THIS WHITE STUFF?? (comment from Sunday's snow)
-
- Anyway, Friday was 35 knots to 50+ knots in the gusts. The gusts were so
- long in duration that they almost didn't qualify as such; and the
- temperature was 16 C.! I slipped a Hyperform blade into the box of my full-
- wave 8'6" Angulo. The G-10 blade is 13" and very narrow (3"), I had hoped
- for big waves but all our wave spots were not sailable, so it was the
- "backbay" or tidal flats. Good for speed! My 200+ lb. friend was
- overpowered on his 3.7 so he packed it in. An other young sailor came in
- with his NP 4.5, a good chunk of air where a monofilm panel used to be.
- Can't blame that one on old Neil!
-
- So to make a long story shorter... the blade works on a wave board - it was
- fast, felt solid, didn't "buck' in the jibe when I would change my weighting
- on the board - of course it was flatwater BUT major power. I knew they were
- OK in 4.0 - 5.0 (small blades, that is) I felt that it was necessary to
- squat or bend my knees much more that before to complete the jibe in those
- conditions but otherwise it was fast and sure!
-
- The next day I went to the "big city" and bought a snowboard - oh ye of
- little faith!!
- See you all in Maui in April '93!
