-
- I've run about 15,000 miles in the past 6 years, going through a few pairs
- of Nike air Pegasus, 10 pairs of Asics (the soles on those things last about
- 400 miles), and 2 pairs of Huaraches. The Huaraches are without a doubt the
- softest, most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever run in. The soles are also
- extremely durable (I've got around 1500 miles on one pair and 1000 on the
- other, and they might go 2000 each). The midsole isn't breaking down at all:
- they're as soft and stable now as the day I got them.
-
- Now, I'm not all that heavy (6', 160 lb), and I my stride is pretty
- biomechanically correct, so other than mileage, I'm pretty easy on shoes,
- at least as far as the midsole goes.
-
- Five or six years ago I ran on Nikes, but the Air Max's of the time were
- narrow, and they hurt my feet. I got pissed at Nike and tried some of the
- Asics, and was really happy with them, except the blown-rubber soles were
- about as durable as the soles on racing shoes. Then I decided to try the
- Huaraches, and as long as they make them they're the only thing I'll train
- in, they're that good. Problem is, Nike is concerned with model years as
- auto manufacturers are, and they may change a perfect thing.
-
- p.s. The heel strap works great, the shoes are snug without being too tight,
- and more comfortable than normal shoes.
-
- In case you haven't guessed, I'd say: if you can wear these shoes (and not
- everyone can), they're the best training shoes ever.
