- Hi everyone,
-
- I just started running about 6 weeks ago (although I had been exercising
- in other ways previously) and today I finished my second 10k in 2 weeks
- (it was great BTW). I've decided I really like this running thing and
- I'm going to stick with it, so from here I need to start some kind of
- training program and that's where all/any of you out there could come in
- handy! I finished my first 10k in 57 minutes which I was very happy
- about since I had really only begun running about 3 weeks prior and was
- convinced I probably would not be finishing at all, from there I prepared
- for my next 10k (which was today) by continuing to run and increasing the
- length of my runs from 41 minutes (the longest I ran before my first
- 10k, but it was a lot of uphill which probably explains how I was
- able to make it 57 minutes during the race) to 60 minutes and I
- guess that worked because I did improve my time today by two minutes.
- Now, where do I go from here? I plan to participate in as many events
- as I can find/make it to and obviously I will be setting new goals each
- time for time improvement. When I train Should I try to run longer each
- time or should I stay around 60 minutes and try to run faster each time?
- I was also thinking that some day (not too far away if possible) I would
- like to try a half marathon or a 10 mile run - again, how should I prepare
- and how long should I expect to train before I could make it that far?
-
- Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated, being a beginner
- I am just interested in learning as much as possible. Oh, one more
- thing - I don't want any injuries, I was wondering how long I
- should stretch before/after running and what kinds of things should
- I do?
-
- Thanks in advance for your information, and happy running!!!
