- Morgans. Yuck. I was working on Colossus the first summer they installed
- those things, and they had lots of problems at first -- we won't get into
- them here, but lets just say that the opening crew got a lot of exercise
- pushing trains during block check. Those trains just weren't designed for
- a coaster like Colossus.
-
- The other side effect is that these trains cannot be run backwards, in the
- configuration they are used in, so the end of the Colossus Backwards ride...

-
- I, unfortunately, never got to ride the original Colossus. I believe
- Magic Mountain shut the ride down after the first season and completely
- reprofiled sections of the ride to make it more "liveable" not only to
- most of the general public, but also to the mechanics and carpenters.
- With the original Colossus, the mechanics I used to work with said that
- they would often have to go out at night and tighten down and check
- certain sections of track because the trains went through them
- completely on their upstop wheels. Was kinda brutal on the wood, I
- guess. They also slowed the ride down.
-
- Again, as I recall, the lady supposedly fell out in the camel backs
- approaching the station. I think that you are right there, Geoff,
- and in the fact that the kludge clips hadn't been in place. Seatbelts
- were added at least when they put in the PTC trains.
-
- Now that this discussion on the Colossus trains have passed, I'm going
- to try to head up to SFMM soon and hike around back where they have
- their equipment graveyard. As of a couple of years ago, they still had
- the original IAD trains stored out back (along with the bumper boats and
- stuff). The PTC's I believe were sold to another Six Flags park.
