- Well, this was my first ACE event, and I wasn't disappointed at all.
- It would've been a letdown if it rained again on Sunday, or if I'd
- had an early flight back, but it didn't and I didn't. :-)
-
- I was very impressed with SFOT and the hospitality they showed us.
- ACE members are a friendly bunch, and I made about 10 new friends.
- I only met two netters, despite the fact that I'd written my email
- address on my nametag. My biggest complaint is that too many people
- didn't wear a nametag.
-
- Texas Giant easily zoomed into my Top 5. I need to reride the Coney
- Island Cyclone to see which is better. The Giant was amazing in its
- unrelenting, merciless, non-stop action. LOTS of lateral forces --
- keeping your hands up took a lot of concentration. The trains vibrate
- up and down too much, though. (At the lunch on Satuday, a SFOT bigwig
- told us that they're making some changes to the Giant, starting this
- week. Supposedly, they're going to make it much smoother, while
- keeping it as fast as possible. Let's hope they do a good job.)
-
- The Shockwave was also fabulous. This is a Schwarzkopf double-looper
- that offers amazing negative G's. And being a Schwarzkopf, it has no
- overhead restraints, just a lap bar (and seatbelts in the back, but you
- can keep them loose). I haven't ridden Batman yet, but this one
- instantly became my favorite looping coaster. (Steel Phantom is
- too rough -- your ears get battered against the overhead restraints.)
- Shockwave almost became my favorite steel coaster, but I think I
- like Magnum just a tad more.
-
- On Saturday afternoon, I went with Ron Zawisza to Ripley's Believe It
- or Not Museum and the accompanying Wax Museum. Both of these were
- worthwhile, but I wouldn't go back there. At night we went downtown
- and went to Dallas Alley. This is a building with about 6 different
- nightclubs, all with different types of music (and live entertainment
- in 3-4 of them). There's a $5 cover to get in, but once you get in
- you can go to all of the clubs. Definitely a good time, and next time
- I go to Dallas I'll stay within walking distance of this place. :-)
