- Well, an old highschool buddy of mine popped up last year
- (just bailed out of the army, looking for a job) and while we were
- talking and catching up on each others' lives he mentioned that
- while in the army he'd been trained up to the 1st Dan level in
- Shotokan Karate. The way he said it made me think that this
- wasn't at all unusual, perhaps even common.
- Since I'm only 6th Ryu (in Shotokan Karate), and since he
- mentioned tutoring others in Shotokan, I asked him to review my
- technique and help me out in making it more practical (I've been
- practicing on my own away from a dojo/sensei for two years now).
- He had plenty of advice to offer, and showed me "the right way" to
- do a combat inside-shuto strike, among other things..
