  40. This is pretty funny!  As far as I knew, Kano introduced a ranking system.
  41. I could be wrong (gasp :-)  There is a small discussion of ranking in 
  42. "Kodokan Judo" by J. Kano.  I couldn't find anything about an origin of 
  43. ranking in the book, though.

  45. Anyone have any sources that can settle the issue (not that I'm really
  46. concerned all that much by who founded it).
