- It appears from first reports that the pheasant hunting is also down
- in Iowa. In talking to some friends of mine that work for the DNR,
- they say that the government acres have allowed the explosion of field
- mice, which leads to an increase in things that eat the field mice,
- like owls, bull snakes, various hawk varieties, etc.. Just so happens
- that some of these animals will also eat pheasant eggs, chicks. This
- supposedly has put somewhat of a dent in the pheasant population this
- year. Couple that with the rainy, wet conditions seen on opening
- weekend, and you get a lot of tired and frustrated hunters. It needs
- to get cold so that the birds begin to clump together a bit. I hope
- this happens before Christmas, as I am planning on doing as much
- hunting as time permits over the holidays. Just some additional info
- on the pheasant hunting woes in the midwest. Happy hunting.
