It appears from first reports that the pheasant hunting is also down
in Iowa.  In talking to some friends of mine that work for the DNR,
they say that the government acres have allowed the explosion of field
mice, which leads to an increase in things that eat the field mice,
like owls, bull snakes, various hawk varieties, etc..  Just so happens
that some of these animals will also eat pheasant eggs, chicks.  This
supposedly has put somewhat of a dent in the pheasant population this
year.  Couple that with the rainy, wet conditions seen on opening
weekend, and you get a lot of tired and frustrated hunters.  It needs
to get cold so that the birds begin to clump together a bit.  I hope
this happens before Christmas, as I am planning on doing as much
hunting as time permits over the holidays.  Just some additional info
on the pheasant hunting woes in the midwest.  Happy hunting.
