  15.     A friend of mine and I are looking into picking put a surplus
  16. rifle or two while prices and availability are still reasonable.
  17. I was wondering if the net.gurus could offer me an opinion of a couple
  18. of rifles I know very little about?

  20.     One is a Syrian mauser in 7.92mm. Available in 'Very Good'
  21. condition and built on the 98K action.  111cm overal, 73.8cm bbl
  22. 6.8lbs.

  24.     The other is an oddball. It's the Mauser Model FR8 'Special
  25. purpose rifle'.  The FR8 is a Spanish conversion to 7.62x51 (.308Win)
  26. based on a K96 Large Ring receiver.  It's fitted with a very short
  27. bbl for a Mauser (44.7cm... 18.5in)  and I wonder if it was intended
  28. to be a paratroop/tanker's rifle.

  30.   We'd be happy to hear anything about these rifles, especial with
  31. respect to quality of work, durability, accuracy, compatability with
  32. available mauser parts and history.
