- ## Assuming that a person does NOT possess a firearm, what it the best
- ## approach for dealing with a stranger at the door at 11PM?
-
- Inspect the person through the peephole viewer, standing to one side.
- If you don't recognize them, either ignore them (they'll either go away
- or eventually try to break in on the assumption that nobody is home) or
- ask them what they want without opening the door at all. If they claim
- to represent some outfit with legitimate business ask to see their ID
- (if possible have them slide it under the door). If they seem suspicious,
- tell them you're not interested and to go away (optionally, ask them to
- contact you at a decent hour in a place where you will have others nearby).
-
- Why in the world would you not possess a weapon to defend yourself and
- family at home in case somebody does try to break in?
