- I own many 1911's including factory NM models and accurized standard models.
- But because of my schedule, I often to leave my firearm in my auto while
- at work, or school. This left me in a predicament, I faced the possibility
- losing a collectable Colt, or restrict my shooting. Fate then dealt me a good
- hand, a local gun shop had Springfield 45's for $339.99. I now had a gun that
- if stolen,I could get replaced. Boy was I pleasantly suprized at the accuracy
- and overall quality of this clone. I shoot lead 200 grain semi-wadcutters
- (H+G #68) 90% of the time. The throat was polished at the factory and it takes
- a really junkey, bruised, mangled reload to cause a jam. I shoot regularly
- with 4 other Springfield owners, and they report that our batch or 45's are
- excellent examples of quality control in carrying out one of the best designs
- ever thought up by John Browning. To date it has digested every bullet design
- it was fed with no jams. It hurts to say this but, dollar for dollar the
- Springfield puts my Colts to shame. ( If someone connected to Springfield
- reads this please sign me up for one of those lucrative endorsement contracts,
- I could use the money.) Other clones I have experienced (small sample) do not
- exhibit the track record of Colt and Springfield. War production and older
- original Colts suffer from softer steel alloys and wide tolerances. If you
- decide to purchase a new Springfield you will have a reliable piece that can
- be customized when the money gods shine on you.
- The original shooter posted concerns about the Springfield not closing on a
- empty mag. This occurs because newer Springfields are equipped with a 8 round
- magazine (increased capacity from the standard 7 rds) that has a different
- follower design that causes this condition. There is nothing wrong with the gun
- or the magazine, this condition is the trade off to get increased capacity. A
- standard magizine will allow you to close the Springfield or Colt on a empty
- mag. I doubt that this condition will worry you now since it is a normal
- state. While I think guns in general are over priced, this 1911 is a comaritive
- value. With the money you save, invest in reloading equipment so YOU can
- practice and shoot to the intrinsic accuracy of the gun.
