- The local folk dancing group here in Santa Cruz does not take political
- positions, nor is there any person who could be pointed to as a spokesman
- or leader of the group. I have noticed that over the past few months, the
- number of requests for any Greek dances has dwindled to nothing, and none
- have been taught. Over half the evening is spent on Macedonian and
- Bulgarian dances. I haven't seen a Syrtos since the Greek Festival a few
- months ago. I think that this is an interesting, unconscious effect on the
- part of those who attend.
-
- At the Greek Festival, we did a Sa to the Syrtos tunes. After all, people
- in Northern Greece would.
