  13. I have just seen a news report on a proposal to charge user fees for
  14. backpacking and hiking use of the National Forests.  My first
  15. response was negative.  However, to say that the money collected
  16. would be used to replace logging revenues.  The implication was that
  17. for every $1 collected from backpackers there would be $1 less in
  18. timber sales.  If this is true I would be inclined to change my
  19. view.

  21. Does anyone have more information on this proposal?  If it would
  22. really reduce logging and new logging roads, I think a lot of people
  23. would be very interested.
