- Just for the record, for those of you who are in the domestic vs. Japanese
- reliability war, the engine that is first being introduced in the new Toyota
- full-size truck is based on the GM 3.1(read this is an auto-mag and in a
- Washington Post auto report)until Toyota can decide on what type of engine and
- drivetrain for permanence.
-
- As for reliability, I think alot of us on the net are making these assumptions
- of Toyo being better than GM/Ford/Chryco based on what they are. Whilst on the
- prowl for a truck (compact) I talked to folks who owned different ones from the
- various manufacturers and there seems to be more loyalty for domestic brands
- in the truck arena than the auto one(yeah yeah--I saw the "Dateline" thing
- about the GM gas tank fiasco---it took them two hits to duplicate the
- fiery result--chilling when ya see it...).
-
- As for power, the V6 works well in the small pickup(Toyota). I never noticed
- the bed being wider than a Ranger's or S-10's or Dakota's--looked about the
- same to me. Seen these small trucks haul some slightly heavy loads, too.
-
- As for me??? I drove the Toyota SR-5,Chevy S-10,and Ford Ranger. If the
- mechanic hadn't screwed up my Aries wagon, I'd be bopping about in a
- Ranger Sport w/V6...seemed great to me,overall...
-
- We'll see how the Toyota does...
