- How can I tell if an engine is broken in nicely?

- I have had a new Sentra for 2 weeks now, and I intend to treat the car the best
- I can, and keep it running for years (at the prices we have to pay for cars
- here in Singapore, I have maximum incentive to keep it running forever. Imagine
- paying US$46,000 for a Sentra!). I don't go above 50mph, don't rev above
- 3000rpm, and try not to crash the brakes (I'm extremely motivated to break-in
- the engine well, as you can see).
-
- But, it's frustrating. I don't know how long I can keep to my self-imposed
- limits before I go insane. Rusty's question is also mine: when can I consider an
- engine broken in? Is it broken in 80% after 1000 miles, 90% after 10K, 99%
- after 20K miles? Also, what are the effects of not breaking in an engine
- properly? Can I expect a X% drop in engine life and fuel economy?
- Enquiring minds want to know.
