  19. I had a 1983 full size Blazer diesel.  Not quite a pick-up but close.  I was
  20. satisfied with the Detroit Diesel that GM is using in their trucks.
  21. Performance was close to the 350 gas engine and fuel mileage was much better.
  22. In town I generally averaged 19 mpg, while on the road it was about 23 mpg.
  23. Big problem was the new overdrive tranny that they used in '83.  The truck ate
  24. 3 of them between Dec 85 and Jan 87, when I sold it.  I think if I were buying
  25. another diesel I'd go with either the Dodge or the Ford.  If you do buy a
  26. diesel, make sure that it has a water seperator installed.  The fuel injection
  27. systems die a rather nasty death once they ingest enough water.

  29. Current vehicle is a 1988 Ford F250 4X4 with 460 ci and 5 spd manual.  I have
  30. been very pleased with this truck.  So far it hasn't had any problems hauling
  31. anything I have attempted to carry.  Only real big drawbacks are the turning
  32. radius, I can make a u-turn in about 5 lanes and fuel economy, it gets about
  33. 10-12 mpg everywhere.  Since I only use it for hauling those things don't
  34. bother me much at all.
