-
- Open the driver's door and look at the mfr's plate affixed to the
- door jamb somewhere. The Year and Month of your car's birth will be
- noted there. If the car is at least 2 or 3 months old, then the paint
- has cured and you can go ahead and wax it, but if it's younger
- than that, the advice I've always heard, from those who allegedly know,
- is that the paint has not yet cured and at this stage you should only
- wash the car with cold water and no soap and your hands or a very
- soft sponge, and dry it with very soft toweling or a chamois.
-
- If you must park it where birds are going to relieve themselves
- on it constantly, buy a good car cover, DON'T use a sheet of
- plastic or other materia lwhich does not "breathe". Otherwise
- moisture can and will get trapped underneath and do more damage
- to your finish than letting the birds shit on it will do.
-
- Excellent car covers, custom made to fit virtually any car, are
- available from places such as Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories,
- who advertise in Car & Driver, Road & Track, and etc. (I have
- no relationship with them)... they make 3 or 4 different grades
- of covers and you can expect to pay about $100 or more for one.
- Since you have a current model they'd probably have a cover for it
- in stock and could ship it without any delay if you ordered one.
-
- Enjoy,
