- In a previous article, derek@nezsdc.icl.co.nz (Derek Tearne) says:
-
- >>>How much more traumatic do you think it is to learn _from scratch_ using
- >>>a manual gearbox. Many of us did just that and can vaguely remember,
- >>>you however, didn't.
- >>>
- >>
- >>actually..it's a debate which i learned first..i learned to shift a stick
- >>long before i ever touched an auto..i shifted for my mother..yeah..from
- >>the right seat(that's the passanger seat for ye ol' non USeans readin'!)
- >>.but the first car i ever "drove"(as in..manuvered on a public road) was
- >>indeed an auto...but..i already knew the idosychrasis(sp) of the manual
- >>that i drove after i'd shifted it for a couple years...even thogh i was
- >>in the wrong seat..:-) you decide which i learned to drive in...i don't
- >>care which you want to claim i learned in..it is still easier to make
- >>the manual-auto conversion than vice versa...
- >
- >You stated quite clearly in an earlier post that _you_ were FORCED (your
- >emphasis) to learn to drive in an auto. Now you say that you knew all about
- >driving manuals 'coz you shifted for your mother. Try at least to be
- >internally consistent in your vacuous arguments.
-
- ok..fine..i was made to take drivers education in an automatic...
- does this clear it all up for you now? I, unlike many of my peers had
- at LEAST MINIMAL experience in a stick BEFORE being in ANY driver's seat.
- but was still (like ALL my peers) made to take a drivers education course
- in an automatic(and a shit one at that!)
-
- >Also understanding the mechanics of moving a lever on cue (push the lever
- >now honey if you really must) doesn't mean you had the faintest clue about
- >the coordination required to move those pedals at the same time.
-
- howzabout you go blow a horse? she never told me when...and it does give
- someone an idea of the mechanics...like..you shift when the clutch is
- down(engaged, disengaged..which way does electricity flow..it all depends
- on who you are..), not before, it makes a nifty noize..you shift quickly,
- but in such a manner as to avoid unecesssary wear(since gone to the wayside.
- aw well..)....and, since i didn't have any trouble when i did get behind the
- wheel for the first time, i can say that it DOES teach you something. better
- to have touched something and learned little, than to have been told it is
- too hard for normal people to handle, so you should not worry about it.
- my last say in this thread, so..tear it up if you feel you must, i say
- my way is best, you say yours is...DC will still make us do it their way.
- screw you and all the other idiots who are screwing up your children's
- driving careers, by feeding them the bull that you fed me.
- fuck the tree..it's a ferrari!
