- It's a question of hardware, not software. Usually the D/A converter for
- audio is a completely different data stream than CD-ROM data. I think
- someone mentioned that the SGI CD-ROM has the capability, in addition to
- the new Apple CD-ROMs.

- If you mean what audio format, 44.1kHz sampling rate 16-bit samples linear
- pulse-code modulation. The actual format of the information on the disc
- involves error-correction redundancy, inleaving, multiplexing, and "8 to
- 14" modulation (to keep the pits near their optimum size). For the details
- of all of this information see Ken Pohlmann's book on Digital Audio or
- Compact Discs.
