- Hello all.
-
- I have been reading this group with interest for several months now.
- It seems that a lot of you have a great deal to offer when it comes
- to Hi-Fi (Mid-Fi???) recommendations. So, maybe you can help me.
- I am searching for new speakers as the first upgrade to my system.
-
- My current system is (don't laugh):
- Sony STR AV1000 tuner/integrated amp (120 WPC per Sony Specs)
- Sony CDP 550 single disc player
- VERY old Radio Shack Optimus T100 speakers
-
- Eventually, I will upgrade to separate tuner, pre-amp and amp,
- as well as upgrading my CD player. However, funds are limited,
- and I believe I will get the most for my money by replacing speakers
- first.
-
- I am looking for recommendations on speakers in the <$1500/pair range.
-
- I listen to all types of music, but mostly jazz (GRP). I like very
- solid bass, and a very clean sound.
-
- So far, I have listened to the Apogee Centaur and Centaur Minor, many
- Klipsch, Paradigm Export and Control Monitors, Energy, Mirage M series,
- Lynn and Theil. I have been most impressed with the Theil CS1.2's, and
- the new Lynn (model??) - floor standing, similar sound to the Nexus.
-
- What other speakers should I listen to? What do you like in this
- price range? Please keep in mind that I will be using my Sony for
- some time before upgrading, so I need to be able to drive the speakers
- with it. Also keep in mind that I would like the speakers to do justice
- to whatever new components I purchase in the future (seriously
- considering the Rotel 120WPC amp, pre-amp and tuner).
-
- Thanks for your help.
