- The 8 Track was invented by Bill (?) Lear, a professional engineer who
- also designed the Lear Jet. He felt that he needed a tape player that
- he could operate while piloting his plane. That is, without taking
- attention from piloting. So he came up with a design that was easy to
- handle, and that would play continuously. It is actually a quite nice
- design for what it was intended.
