  21. Well Jamie - the CD manufacturers saw the DAT as a threat at one time.

  23. They busted their buns pushing the CD in the formative years.  They
  24. felt they had to get 5% of the recorded market by the time the car DATs
  25. hit the street or they would lose out to DAT.

  27. It's interesting to see how things worked out - and how CD took off
  28. faster than any other consumer audio format in history.

  30. As to DATs in cars all of the people I know who have DATs in their cars
  31. (see footnote) have had intermittent drop-out problems.

  33. A tape will play along, then drop out for a moment.  If it is played
  34. again there is no problem.   In my car - Honda CRX SI - it is mounted
  35. where the cassette hold once was.  Not a real heat problem.

  37. My best friend has one in his 944 Turbo Porsche (with performance
  38. chips) and he feels that in his installation it is a heat build up
  39. problem.   That I can see in his, but not mine.  He got is race
  40. instructors license in that car at Sebring last week, and I'd venture a
  41. guess that it is the only racing machine with a DAT in it.

  44. is a small group.  Two - Andy and I.  Couldn't resist at the $299 price
  45. when they were closed out - Sony DTX-10 (??)  :-)
