- I have an old el-cheapo technics CD player that occasionally has
- skipping problems. The problem is NOT the disks, but the player.
- The laser assembly is on a "sled" that slides on two lubricated
- rails. After a while, the grease gets all pushed to the ends of
- the rails and then the sled will stick, thus causing skipping.
-
-
- To solve the problem, I just pop the cover, redistribute the
- grease and slide the sled back and forth a few times. After
- that, I have flawless performance for another several months. I
- also take the opportunity to clean all the dust and peanut butter
- off the laser lens. It's cheaper and more effective than those
- little "cleaner disks".
