- Being fairly poor myself, I understand where your coming from, BUT,
- perhaps the reason I'm poor is that I've spent my money on interests
- other than hi-fi equipment, which implies that I have not devoted
- myself to becoming a stereophile expert. So, when I read this
- newsgroup, I hope to learn from those that know what they're
- talking about; usually, those who invest mass $$ on superior
- equipment. I would guess that the experts without $$ to spend would
- want to read it out of interest, if not for buying advice.
-
- Thus, the problem with a separate newsgroup for the "poor" is that
- it is unlikely to attract the very people for which most people read
- this newsgroup: those people knowledgeable enough to give sound advice
- (no pun intended).
-
- I think that if everyone made a point of specifying their price range,
- quality they seek, and perhaps whether or not they are "novices" when
- it comes to stereo equipment, those in the "know" would be happy to
- provide suggestions at the level the advice seeker could understand.
- (I recall not long ago someone posted a request for advice without
- giving any range indication. When given high-end suggestions, this
- individual posted the rudest and most unwarranted flame I've read here.
- But it was his own fault.)
-
- By the way, thanks John F., Sean V., and Thorn R. for your advice on
- mid-level tape decks; I sort of expected I could get as much for less.
